Abstract
The film series of hands of 1174 children (from 1 month baby to 20 years old) have been studied independantly to obtain age equivalents for onset of ossification and completion of ossification in 10
bone growth centers of the hand at the N.M.C. Each of the intervals between onset and completion, namely, span of the osseous stage, has been calculated. Followings are results.
1) The ages of onset and order of the ossification center showed a slight range of variation as that of standard children. But, capitate was the first appearance of carpal bone and pisiform was the last.
2) Generally, female was faster than male in the onset of ossification centers
3) Using the Nelson¢¥s series for comparision, Capitate and hamate were faster than that of U. S. A., the remainder was delayed.
4) Completion of ossification commenced from capitate and ended with the closure of the distal radial epiphysis at the age of 18 years and 4 months in the male and 17 years and 4 months in the female.
